Over the past several months, pet parents have learned of numerous pet food withdrawals and/or silent recalls. Pets became ill, some died.

We say to all Pet Food Companies…”You want our trust and our business”? Prove it!

Here’s how it works…

1. Each participating Pet Food Company will agree to initiate an email alert system to promptly notify consumers when/if a problem is discovered with their pet food; for consumers that wish to be notified via voice mail, the Pet Food Company agrees to initiate a voice mail system as well.

2. Once your Pet Food Company’s notification system is up and running, Pet Parents can register at their Pet Food Company’s website to be notified of a pet food recall or pet food product withdrawal.

3. Each participating Pet Food Company will be listed on www.truthaboutpetfood.com as a member of the “Pet Food Recall First Alert Program”.

4. Millions of Pet Food consumers will be promptly notified of a recalled pet food; Millions of Pet Parents will see the final list (coming soon on www.truthaboutpetfood.com) of which Pet Food Companies have chosen integrity over secrecy. Please keep checking the website for updates.

We want you to be part of this massive world-wide email campaign! This problem is not limited to the USA. We’re not asking everyone to meet us in front of the White House. In fact, you don’t even have to leave your chair, it’s that simple!

From two sick and tired determined pet parents…we’re asking for your help! This is what we ALL need to do for this Plan to be effective:

1. Please copy the letter listed below that asks your Pet Food Company to participate. See attached Directory of “Pet Food Companies and Pet Stores” with their email contact information. Click or copy the email address and paste the letter into your email. (Contact Page: indicates a form needs to be filled out on their website, please take the time to fill it out, see below for shorter version of the letter). If listed, please include the Contact’s name in your letter. (Dear Mr./Ms.) If you wish, also call them!

2. Please forward this email to your friends, family, newspapers, t.v. stations, pet food retailers, pet stores, veterinarians, groomers, dog daycare centers, etc. Post this email on all your forums and blogs! Twitter it…Facebook it, My Space it!

3. Write your Representatives! (Your Representatives and Senators are located on: www.Congress.org). Look for the box “Get Involved” and type in your zip code.

Over the past several months, consumers have learned of numerous pet food withdrawals across the U.S. Consumers know of numerous pet food companies that have quietly pulled products from store shelves due to their knowledge of sick and/or dying pets. Consumers were forced to learn this information via their own detective work. Consumers don’t like having to do our own pet food detective work.

Consumers understand that human error happens; no company can guarantee pet parents their foods will be completely safe, every single batch, month after month and year after year. While no pet parent wants to learn there is a problem with their pet food, what we REALLY don’t like is pet food companies continuing to sneak behind closed doors and privately recalling dog and cat foods without notifying us.

I propose to you the following that can help save my family member & beloved pet’s life…

As your consumer, I ask that your website initiate an email list for us to subscribe to. This can be accomplished within hours with a simple auto-responder email program such as Get-Response or Constant Contact. This list will be used to inform consumers if any product is pulled from store shelves and/or believed to be a potential health risk. For pet parents that are not on-line, please develop a voice mail program to notify your consumers that have registered for this alert service through your Customer Service Department.

Please alert all registered pet parents within 24 hours of your company’s product pull or within 24 hours of your company’s knowledge of a pet food problem.

Consumers want to see a “warning” on your main page of your website to alert us of the lot #’s being recalled in bold letters that can be easily seen by all.

Consumers are certain pet food doesn’t want a product pull or a private recall to become public information. No one enjoys admitting a mistake; especially a mistake that could cause a pet to become ill or die. However, know each and every time pet food product pulls, it DOES become public. Nothing is kept under wraps. By the time we learn of them, and because of how we learn of them, that company has just proved to thousands of pet parents you are not a trust worthy company. Your lack of openness speaks volumes to us. While pet food might believe it is the best decision for business to keep product pulls as quiet as possible, consumers take the exact opposite position.

Imagine the changes that can take place when pet food decides to be candid about a problem. Imagine the difference in tone on blogs and social networks when you (pet food) tell us in a timely and straightforward manner you have unfortunately experienced a mechanical or human error issue with a product. This shows consumers that your Company is willing to be candid with your consumers; this shows consumers that you truly wish to keep their business as well as gain their trust.

In return for your agreement to initiate a “consumer first alert system”, TruthaboutPetFood.com will publish and promote a list of pet food companies that have agreed to participate.

Your Pet Food Company will be significantly noted on this website (as well as many others) as one that has chosen integrity and openness. Pet Food Companies that participate in the Pet Food First Alert Program will be blogged and Tweeted all over the Internet. And, Pet Food Companies that choose not to participate will be noted on TruthaboutPetFood.com, resulting in unfavorable blog posts and Tweets.

We will gladly work with you to resolve this much needed communication between your Company and your consumers.

Please respond to this email so that I (your consumer) know my Pet Food Company is choosing integrity over secrecy.
