Lavigne is just a few weeks away from releasing her newest album, Love Sux, on February 25. The star’s seventh album will be the first new music she has released since 2019, a monumental record that told the story of how she suffered from Lyme Disease. While she was due to follow up this release with a bout of shows throughout the UK and Europe swiftly after, they have now been pushed back an entire year.

Lavigne posted the news on her social media accounts today, alongside a new set of dates. She told her followers: “To my fans in Europe and the UK, I have some unfortunate news to share with you all about my UK and European dates. I have to make the difficult decision to postpone this tour until 2023.”

The Sk8r Boi singer added that this postponement was because of the “ongoing issues surrounding the pandemic”. She also placed blame on a series of “travel and venue restrictions” that differ from country to country.

Lavigne empathised with her fans by saying it has not been an “easy decision”. She continued: “It’s one that will help ensure that we are able to play every single date of the tour, put on the best show possible at full capacity, and operate in a safe environment.”

The 37-year-old added: “It really breaks my heart to have to do this, but I know it will be worth the wait. The tour is now rescheduled for April-May 2023. All existing tickets are valid for the new dates.” Fans have become enraged at the tour’s pushback.

This postponement news follows Lavigne’s newly-released of singles from Love Sux – Bite Me and Love It When You Hate Me. She recently went on record to explain how she has been tapping into the musical influences she grew up with for this new guitar-filled album.

The star said: “I really went back to what sounds I originally was influenced by at the beginning of my career. To the core, I’m a kid from a small town who listened to bands like Blink-182 and Green Day and NOFX in high school, and I tapped into that.” Lavigne even worked with some members of Blink-182 to get the record sounding just right.

Lavigne is not only on the record label of Blink drummer Travis Barker, but she also worked alongside the band’s singer and bassist Mark Hoppus.

She recently appeared on his podcast where she told him: “I was really excited to work with you. I mean, to be honest, you’re one of my favourite artists. [The Blink-182 albums] Dude Ranch and Enema Of The State… those were the records I was listening to in high school and as a teenager and I feel like they were really impactful on me as I was coming into my own musical identity.”

Avril Lavigne – Love Sux is out February 25.
