Blink-182 are still the biggest pop-punk act on the planet. The three-piece act has sold over 50 million albums worldwide, with their fourth album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, reaching number one in the USA in 2001. But their biggest song of all time came from their third album, Enema of the State: All The Small Things.
The single was released worldwide 22-years-ago yesterday on January 18, 2000.? The fun and fast-paced song was praised for its composition and lyricism, both of which contributed to its ?extraordinary ?success.? ?Not only did All The Small Things reach number one in the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks charts, but it also hit number two in the UK Singles Charts, where it sold 1.2 million copies.? ?The song was also certified 2x Platinum in the UK and once in Australia.
But long before All The Small Things was named “one of the 100 greatest pop songs” by Rolling Stone, Hoppus and DeLonge pored over perfecting the lyrics.
One of the band’s fans recently asked on Twitter: “Did you know the word commiserating before blink 182 yes or no.” (sic)? ?
Hoppus retweeted the question with an explanation for the choice of lyrics.? ?He said: “Tom already had ‘watching, waiting’ and needed another five syllables.”? ?As it turns out, when the song was originally recorded, DeLonge – the band’s former singer – knew it would be a hit.

The legendary? music video for? All The Small Things ?showed the band playing around as if they were a traditional pop band.? ?DeLonge explained: “We want to do a video that’s like, directly like a boy band video, because we figure we’re just as hot and we look good wet and we dance and we can fit in tight clothes just like everyone else, you know?”
But on the set of this music video, Hoppus met his future wife, Skye Everly.
?At first?, Hoppus struggled to get Everly to go out with him.? But, with a little help from his friend DeLonge, he managed to get her on board.? ?In 2004 Hoppus recalled: “Tom always used to embarrass me. Any girl he’d talk to, he’d say: ‘Hey, you wanna go on a date with Mark?’ He asked Skye, my wife, who looked at me and said: ‘No.'”? ?Hoppus added: “That’s how it all started.”
Hoppus and Everly have been married since December 8, 2022.
