As just revealed at the show’s South by Southwest (SXSW) panel, Peacock’s Girls5Eva Season 2 finally has a premiere date, and it’s an appropriate one: 5/5, aka, May 5, 2022. The first three episodes will premiere that Thursday, followed by one episode weekly thereafter. Forever? No, just for a couple of weeks.
“Season 2 of Girls5eva answers the simple question: What would happen if Girls5eva was renewed for a second season?” Meredith Scardino, showrunner, creator, and Executive Producer of Girls5Eva said in a statement provided to Decider. “We are so excited to share the next chapter in Dawn, Wickie, Gloria, and Summer’s journey as they enter ‘Album Mode’ and embark on making their first studio album on their own terms.”
The series, which stars Sara Bareilles as Dawn, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Wickie, Paula Pell as Gloria and Busy Philipps as Summer, follows a one-hit-wonder girl group from the ’90s as they try to achieve fame, one more time.
At the end of Season 1, they put it all on the line to reunite after a big fight, perform a new song at Jingle Ball despite being told not to do that — and as seen in the first look at the season, they were successful. The number killed, the fans are hungry, and they’re being courted for a worldwide comeback tour. Only problem? Gloria blew out her knee. But don’t worry, based on some advice from Wickie, who dealt with an exploding gall bladder during a gig back in the ’90s, she should be juuuuuust fine.
Girls5Eva is executive produced by Jeff Richmond, Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, David Miner, and Eric Gurian, and produced by Universal Television.
The first season of Girls5Eva is now streaming on Peacock with a Premium subscription, though you can also watch the first episode free. Check out above to watch the first clip from Season 2, and speculate about whether this time around, they’ll be famous 5 eva.
