Harry Potter star ‘would’ return for The Cursed Child film – but on one condition | Films | Entertainment

The Harry Potter films came to an end in 2011 with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. The end of the series finished the titular hero’s story – but author JK Rowling was not done with him just yet. In 2016 the star – alongside author Jack Thorne – released Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a two-part play that has since remained on London’s West End. Since its release, rumours of a cinematic version of the play has been rumoured.

Most recently, Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films (The Philosopher’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets) expressed a desire to helm the film adaptation. He said: “I would love to direct The Cursed Child. It’s a great play and the kids are actually the right age to play those roles. It’s a small fantasy of mine.”

It seems Ron Weasley star Grint would love to do that as well. While on GMB this week, the 33-year-old was asked about returning. He replied: “I can’t really think of a reason not to really, I love that character, I love that world. It’s a huge part of my life. I feel this kind of ownership of Ron in a weird way.”

Rupert added that he has seen The Cursed Child. He continued: “Although I loved seeing the play, it was a real thrill seeing someone else take that body over.”

Despite his willingness to return to the big screen, and his love for the play, he did have one major stipulation on returning.

Radcliffe added: “Who knows if in ten, 20 years I would feel differently about that, and I think I’ve got a little while before I’m sort of age-appropriate for this Harry.”

The Hermione Grange actor has been very particular about what she has said about The Cursed Child. One of her most notable comments about the new story followed her seeing the show herself. And jumping back into the Wizarding World left her feeling extremely emotional.

Watson said: “It was so strange. It was so emotional seeing [Cursed Child’s Hermione actor] Noma [Dumezweni]’s performance in a way that I had not anticipated at all. She walked in the room, and I just spontaneously burst into tears.” The 31-year-old added: “I had played that character so intensely up until that point, that to know that Hermione was going to be okay – I know it sounds crazy – but to know that everything turned out all right and everything in the world was okay, that there was someone else carrying her on and carrying her forward … it was just such a relief.”

The Harry Potter films are available to watch on NOW.
