Attention, my fellow olds who grew up throwing around the phrase “Damn, Gina!” (a useful expression in nearly every circumstance): The cast of Martin is reuniting on June 16th in a reunion special which will air on BET+.
On the reunion Martin Lawrence will reunite with his former co-stars, including Tisha Campbell (the Gina in question, Martin’s wife), Tichina Arnold, who played Gina’s best friend Pam, and Carl Anthony Payne II, who played Cole, as well as special guests like Snoop Dogg, Tommy Davidson. The special will be moderated by comedian Affion Crockett.
Notably absent from the special is actor Thomas Mikal Ford who played Tommy Strawn on the show. Ford died in 2016 of an abdominal aneurysm, and the teaser for the reunion kicks off with the cast announcing “This one’s for you, Tommy.”
The trailer features the cast as they reminisce about the making of the iconic sit-com, which aired from 1992 until 1997, as well as discussing the show’s legacy. It marks the first time the cast has reunited all together for over 30 years, and that time hasn’t been without its complications. In 1997, Campbell filed a lawsuit against Lawrence claiming he sexually harassed her on set, and for much of season five, the pair would not film scenes together. The case was eventually settled out of court. In 2020, both stars addressed the matter publicly, saying that they have reconciled. (It remains to be seen whether that moment in their relationship will be explored on the reunion.)
