Maude Apatow battled ‘bad’ acne while filming ‘Euphoria’

For Maude Apatow, playing a teen on “Euphoria” came with some highly relatable skin struggles.

“When I started working and wearing more makeup, my skin got a lot worse,” the 24-year-old actress, who plays Lexi Howard on HBO’s hit series, admitted during her Vogue “Beauty Secrets” interview Thursday.

“I was shooting ‘Euphoria’ a couple months ago and I got three gigantic zits on my forehead — you couldn’t cover them, they were so big. And they stuck out,” Apatow recalled, adding that the breakout was “so bad,” she urged director Sam Levinson to “be careful with the lighting.”

To keep her complexion under control, the star swears by a few skincare golden rules. “The one big thing I learned … is making sure all your makeup comes off at the end of the day,” she said.

The actress, who’s the eldest daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, also makes it a point to avoid picking any blemishes.

“I definitely learned not to pick my skin because it spreads,” she said. “I never believed that when people told me that. Then I learned that if I pop zits, they travel.”

Finally, Apatow had to “figure out products that don’t make [her] break out” and stick to a skincare routine. She uses two products by Obagi Medical — the Nu-Derm Toner ($43) and IDR Exfoliating and Hydrating Lotion ($75) — to prep her face, along with Jillian Dempsey Hydrating Eye Masks ($75) and VI Derm SPF 50 Daily UV Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen ($40).

Then, she’s ready for makeup, which has become a key component of the “Euphoria” aesthetic.

“They sent us so much makeup for Season 2 because the makeup was such a big part of season one,” Apatow said, adding, “We called the makeup trailer Sephoria.”
