New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: Fire Island, Floor Is Lava (Season 2), and The Boys
As we mentioned, Fire Island, the film about two besties (and the rest of their friend circle) taking a summer vacation together comes out on Friday. The film has evolved a bit since it was first announced in the trades two years ago as a Quibi TV show. (R.I.P. Quibi!) so it’s nice to see it finally see the light of day. If you want comfort in the form of two favorite shows that are returning for all-new seasons, you’re in luck. Netflix’s bubbling hot Floor Is Lava returns in all it’s punny glory for a second season, and Amazon Prime Video’s superheroes-with-a-twist series The Boys is also back for its third season this week. New on Hulu June 3: Fire Island
It’s this writer’s personal opinion that Bowen Yang makes everything great, which is why we can’t wait to stream Fire Island this weekend. Joel Kim Booster, who has written for shows like Big Mouth and The Other Two, and who has appeared in Shrill and Sunnyside, wrote the script for the film, which is loosely based on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, and features a great supporting cast of comedy actors including Margaret Cho, Conrad Ricamora, and Matt Rogers.
New on Netflix June 3: Floor Is Lava, Season 2
Floor Is Lava is exactly what it sounds like, a riff on the game where kids jump all over their furniture, toys, or playground equipment pretending that they’ll get burned by “hot lava” if they touch the ground. Only in this version, these obstacle courses are brimming with bubbling goo that contestants, in teams of three, have to avoid, lest they lose their shot at the prize at the end of the episode. Season two promises higher stakes, and a volcano that’s sure to lead to some explosive moments on the new season.

New on Amazon Prime Video June 3: The Boys, Season 3
The Boys, on Amazon Prime Video, the series about a group of young vigilantes fighting against a group of power-abusing superheroes was, is heading into its third season with a whole bunch of new faces. While plenty of your favorite characters, including Karl Urban as Billy Butcher and Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, will be returning, new faces, like Jensen Ackles, who will play the Captain America-like Soldier Boy, and Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess. Tune in Friday when Amazon Prime Video drops the first two episodes of The Boys on the platform. (Subsequent episodes will air on Fridays this June and July.)
