Seth Meyers jokingly roasted his Late Night writers after downing drinks during a segment with his guest, Post Malone. The late night host was joined by the rapper at a bar in New York City, where they knocked back shots and beer while quizzing one another.
While creating a signature drink for his guest, Meyers said he typically concocts something connected to an artist’s music, but chose to draw inspiration from Malone’s many tattoos.
“You have a tattoo, true or false, that says, ‘Tired No More,’” Meyers said, but Malone corrected him, saying his ink actually reads, “Always Tired.”
Meyers paused and asked, “What?” while Malone laughed it off, assuring him the message meant the “same thing.”
As he opened a bottle of iced coffee, Meyers said, “You have a tattoo that’s ‘Always Tired,’” then turned to pointedly look at someone beyond the camera while saying, “So our team got the first tattoo wrong.”
While pouring out the drink, Meyers explained, “Well, this is called ‘Tired No More,’ which is the tattoo I’m gonna make those fucking dummies get,” which earned plenty of laughter from his guest. The revolting beverage consisted of coffee, Red Bull and Four Loko — all topped off with some Pixy Stix.
Malone downed nearly all of his drink in one gulp, then told Meyers, “I think that’s pretty good. You could sell that.” In response, Meyers snuck in one last dig at his writers, saying, “And the good news is, we can sell it because the name’s available.”
The segment then cut to a message from Meyers, who explained, “Hey, mea culpa, everybody. I was told that after the first drink that I misread the intro.” Turning to Malone, he continued, “These are based on your tattoos, and I should have known that your tattoo was ‘Always Tired,’ because I’m reading it.” (Malone’s “Always Tired” tattoo is featured prominently on his face.)
Meyers then apologized to his writers, who “just give their all every day.” He said, “My goodness, the effort they put into this show. And yeah, so, so sorry,” then carried on with his day drinking.
