Simu Liu will go to any (hair) length for a role.
Liu, 33, gave some insight into his preparation for the upcoming “Barbie” movie, in which he’s rumored to play a Ken doll.
To commit to the role of Barbie’s plastic counterpart, he waxed his entire body.
“Waxing has been an education to say the least,” the Marvel star told The Independent, calling it “one of the most painful experiences of my life.”
The Marvel star went on to praise fellow waxers now that he knows what they’ve gone through. “I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis,” he quipped.
Liu, who recently released his memoir “We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story,” might be preparing to play Ken in other ways as well.
The “Shang-Chi and the “Legend of the Ten Rings” actor, 33, gave his Instagram followers a peek at his platinum blonde locks in February. He captioned a shirtless (and hairless) photo with “sorry ma pls don’t kill me.” Fans compared him to former boy banders Nick Carter and Nick Lachey in the comments, but perhaps he was channeling Ken.
But Twitter is buzzing with rumors that “Barbie” will have a “Truman Show” inspired storyline with different versions of Ken, including Liu. He wouldn’t confirm or deny those reports in The Independent interview, but did say “the discourse online is giving me life.”
The Greta Gerwig-directed “Barbie” film is set to release on July 21, 2023, so fans will have to wait until then to see the “Kim’s Convenience” actor in all his hairless glory.
Come on Ken, let’s go party.
