The plotline in “Downton Abbey” follows the dramatic social lives of a noble British household in the early 1900s. It has won 15 Primetime Emmy awards and is considered to be one of the biggest period dramas of the past decade (via IMDb). As mentioned, the show also won a spot in Queen Elizabeth’s TV calendar while it was airing, as it was one of her favorite shows.
According to a Telegraph source, the Queen would love to “point out things they have got wrong, partly because she is familiar with Highclere Castle, where it is filmed.”
Another show that is close to the Queen’s real life is of course Netflix’s “The Crown.” During a past appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” actress Vanessa Kirby — who previously played Princess Margaret in “The Crown” — revealed that one of Her Majesty’s granddaughters informed her that the Queen has indeed watched the streaming drama (via Hello!).
