The Surprising Connection Between How I Met Your Father And How I Met Your Mother

“How I Met Your Father” premiered on Hulu on January 18, per NPR, starting the year off with a fresh dose of classic comedy, and now we know how this series connects to “How I Met Your Mother.” Ahead of the premiere, fans were unclear how the series would directly connect, if at all, outside of understanding that the series was generally a sequel series. According to E! News, however, the premiere revealed a shocking connection.

As it turns out, one of the series’ central locations is the same apartment that Ted Mosby (portrayed by Josh Radnor) lived in in “How I Met Your Mother.” The 4D unit has become beloved by fans who adored all of the memories made in it, so this new series undoubtedly hopes to capture that same charm and build upon what the prior series established. “How I Met Your Father” sees new characters Jesse and Sid, portrayed by Chris Lowell and Suraj Sharma, respectively, living in the apartment.

What’s more, the first episode of “How I Met Your Father” paid tribute to Bob Saget, the prior series’ narrator, by including a title card at the end of the episode in his honor (via TVLine). “I’m endlessly grateful that ‘HIMYM’ brought Bob Saget into my life,” Radnor said in a statement. “I’ll hear his voice in my head for the rest of my days.”

So, how do you feel about the inclusion of apartment unit 4D in “How I Met You Father,” and will you be tuning in as the season unfolds?
