When you’re talking about a show as unpredictable and irreverent as South Park, it’s hard to imagine it one-upping itself. Yet that’s exactly what South Park did with The Streaming Wars, a special theoretically about water supply issues that immediately spiraled into chaos.
Anyone who watched The Streaming Wars is probably asking themselves the same question: “Is that it?” Fortunately, the answer is no. Here’s everything we know about the future of South Park on Paramount+ as well as the future of this one wild plot line.
Will There Be Another South Park Special on Paramount+?
Yes, there will be. In August of last year, Paramount announced that it had ordered 14 South Park specials as well as six additional seasons of the series. Since The Streaming Wars marks the third of these specials, that means we have 11 to go. As for when you can expect this next installment, that’s another question entirely.
When Will the Next South Park Movie Be on Paramount+?
That’s a harder question to answer. During the Television Critics Association’s 2022 winter tour, Paramount+’s Chief Programming Officer Tanya Giles confirmed that two specials would be released in 2022. “Like we said, we’re incredibly flexible in terms of bringing those stories to Paramount+. But there will be two this year,” Giles said.
As for when the second special will premiere this year, our best guess is connected to South Park’s past. The Streaming Wars was first announced on May 11, 2022. Three weeks later, that episode premiered on June 1. Based on this timeline, once Paramount+ announces a new special we can likely expect it to premiere in a few weeks.
Will The Streaming Wars Have a Part 2?
During that same panel during TCA, Giles confirmed that not every made-for-TV South Park movie will be a two-part event. But based on how The Streaming Wars ended, it seems unlikely that this will be a standalone episode.
The hourlong episode concluded with Stan afraid that he would be murdered by ManBearPig, Denver and the surrounding farms gasping for water, and Tolkien’s father nearly dying at the hands of a corrupt pee-obsessed water park boss. But the real loose end had to do with Cartman. After losing a battle of wills with his mom, Cartman had breast augmentation surgery. Yes, it was exactly as disturbing as you’re imagining. No matter how you cut it, The Streaming Wars didn’t end with a satisfying conclusion. Either there are going to be more episodes in Season 25 that no one will be able to follow or we’re getting a second part.
